  • Development of rapid diagnosis and new therapeutic approach for inherited metabolic diseases
  • Sensitive analysis of erythrocyte age-related maker and its application to clinical diagnosis
Research Focus We are doing basic research on the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for inherited metabolic diseases. Recently, we have established rapid diagnostic system for Japanese Pompe patients (Glycogen storage disease, typeⅡ), and been carrying out newborn screening for the disease in collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics in our Medical School Hospital. We are also investigating to clarify molecular bases of Pompe disease. In addition to these research projects, our efforts have been directing to establish new therapeutic strategies for Pompe disease with chemical chaperones. In the course of establishing the therapeutic strategies for Pompe disease, we developed new technical platform to detect misfolded protein in cells which can be applicable to other protein misfolding and degenerative diseases. Furthermore, we are doing research project on erythrocyte age-related marker and its applicability to clinical diagnosis with domestic and foreign coworkers.
