Message from the Dean
Welcome to our website!
The School of Health Sciences was established in October 2003, and it specializes in Nursing, Radiological Sciences and Medical Laboratory Sciences. The history of the school goes back to the opening of a nursing course in 1898, in the affiliated hospital of the Kumamoto Medical School, a nongovernmental school in those days. Throughout its history, we have turned out a great many of excellent medical staff including nurses, clinical radiologists and clinical laboratory technicians. The Graduate School of Health Sciences was established in 2008, and its doctoral program started in 2010. From the standpoint of health and life sciences, we strive to enrich our education and research in these fields.
In the undergraduate school, taking advantage of the fact that we are in the university having a university hospital, we foster medical staff with highly practical skills. Further, taking advantage of having three different courses (nursing, radiological sciences and medical laboratory sciences), we provide education for promoting the mutual understanding between professionals of the relevant fields and, also, laying great emphasis on the collaborative approach to health care.
In the graduate school, we foster high-level medical professionals, educators and researchers who become leaders of the next generation and provide both a highly specialized knowledge and a global view required for advanced medicine. In nursing, we foster Certified Nurse Specialists (CNS) and, in cooperation with Kumamoto University Hospital and the local community, endeavor to produce appropriate care models so as to cope with the super aging society, and thus contribute to the solution of social issues. In medical radiological and medical laboratory sciences, we carry out diagnosis, inspection and treatment by promoting the collaborative work with the experts of the relevant fields, including medicine, pharmacy and engineering both in and out of the university. Thus, we contribute to the improvement of medical technology.
We welcome students who are willing to study either in our undergraduate or in graduate schools. We hope you come to our school with humanity, intelligence, enthusiasm and creativity.
