Overview
Principles and Aims
The Kumamoto University School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences focuses on nurturing high-quality medical personnel, researchers, and educators that are highly knowledgeable and have wide expertise, are taught in a culture that respects life and human dignity, work well on medical teams, and make important contributions to society through the three departments of study: Nursing, Radiological Sciences, and Medical Laboratory Sciences.
Admission Policy
In order to train medical personnel, researchers, and educators who are highly qualified to contribute widely to society, the School of Health Sciences (Nursing, Radiological Sciences, and Medical Laboratory Sciences) responsible for the development of health science, are looking for the following types of individuals:

Passionate and motivated people interested in becoming professional nurses (nurses, public health nurses, midwives), medical radiology technicians, or clinical laboratory technicians, who contribute to the community through their specialized fields, and approach ideas from a broad international perspective.

People with respect for human life who are tolerant to differing values and who value cooperation. People with the innate qualities needed for nurturing high ethical standards and impeccable manners in medical care professions.

People who have basic understanding of subjects studied up until high school and have excellent academic skills in their mother tongue, in foreign language(s), and in 2 or more science subjects (biology, chemistry, physics).

People with a strong sense of humanity and who where active in clubs, student council, or volunteer activities etc., and who, up until high school, have built experiences based on their own goals and can work well in various social environments.

People with a pioneering spirit not afraid to explore new areas of study, that are interested and well-versed in specialized fields of knowledge and skills, have a serious attitude in regards to experiments and clinical practices, and who set challenges for themselves and solve problems.

People who can cooperate well, work as a member of a medical team, who can collaborate while respecting others' work, who fulfill the responsibilities related to roles and functions in specialized fields, and who have the qualities necessary for taking on leadership roles.

People with a willingness to take on leadership positions and contribute to society as specialized professionals, educators, or researchers after graduating from an undergraduate program, and who are motivated to aggressively engage in scientific inquiry and learning.
History
The College of Medical Science and the Department of Nursing in the Faculty of Education were combined into the School of Health Science in October 2003.
