Principles and Aims

The Kumamoto University School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences focuses on nurturing high-quality medical personnel, researchers, and educators that are highly knowledgeable and have wide expertise, are taught in a culture that respects life and human dignity, work well on medical teams, and make important contributions to society through the three departments of study: Nursing, Radiological Sciences, and Medical Laboratory Sciences.

Admission Policy

In order to cultivate professionals who promote the development of health sciences (nursing, radiological sciences, and medical laboratory sciences) and who are capable of making a substantial contribution to human society, the School of Health Sciences seeks students who have qualities shown below.

  1. 1Have a genuine interest in nursing profession (nurse, public health nurse, midwife), radiological technicians and medical laboratory technicians, and who have will and enthusiasm to commit to the community service in their area of expertise, and actively engage in the international field with a global viewpoint.
  2. 2Rich in humanity and attitude for cooperation who respect human dignity, flexible enough to accept diverse values, and have attitude to cultivate high medical ethics and manners.
  3. 3 Academically strong individuals who have excellent academic records in Japanese and in a foreign language along with the sound understanding of high school subjects, and who also have excellent academic records in at least two science subjects out of the following three: biology, chemistry and physics.
  4. 4Individuals of genuine humanity who have the experience of grappling with their defined goals in high school and of participating in club activities, student councils or volunteer activities, and are receptive to diverse social environments.
  5. 5Individuals with pioneering spirits who are willing to absorb knowledge and techniques in their specialized field with deep interest, address and solve their own problems in both laboratory and clinical practice with a sincere attitude, and tackle an unfamiliar field in a positive manner.
  6. 6Persons with cooperative personality who work in cooperation with other members of a medical team while showing respect for each other's work, fulfill their duties in their specialized field, and have essential traits of a leader.
  7. 7Highly motivated individuals who have scientific minds and the urge to learn and, after graduation, are willing to enhance their potential as professionals, educators and researchers, and to take the initiative in contributing to the welfare of society.
  8. 8Willing to commit themselves to the Community service in their area of expertise, and who have a global viewpoint and a strong will to be actively involved in the international arena.

History

The College of Medical Science and Department of Nursing in Fuculty of Education are integrated into the School of Health Science in Oct., 2003
