Message from the Dean
The history of this department begins with the Nursing Course at the Private Kumamoto Medical School Affiliated Hospital, which was established in 1891. At the time, short-term training for nurses was being expanded nationwide to deal with infectious diseases, and the school started out as a pioneering training institution for nurses. After that, specialization and subdivision of the field of health science progressed rapidly, and an era came when society strongly demanded the training of professionals with advanced specialized knowledge and skills. The Kumamoto University College of Medical Technology was established in 1975 by integrating the school and the School of Medical X-ray Technicians attached to the School of Medicine, which was established in 1966. Since then, this junior college department, which has sent out many graduates who are active in a wide range of fields and areas both domestically and internationally, merged with the Faculty of Education's special subject (nursing) teacher training program and was established in October 2003. is the current Kumamoto University School of Medicine, Department of Health Sciences. Furthermore, the Graduate School of Health Sciences Education Department established a master's program in 2008 and a doctoral program in 2010, providing a place for students to acquire the basics of medical science and health research. I am.
Those who enroll in this department will aspire to become medical professionals, medical researchers, and educators in the future who will have solid medical knowledge and skills, as well as rich humanity based on medical ethics. It is mandatory. Failure to continually learn can directly jeopardize the lives and quality of life (QOL) of patients and the general public. Based on the policy of task shifting/sharing, it is necessary to contribute to team medical care and to strive for uniformity and optimization of medical care, as well as the provision of high-level preventive medical care, preemptive medical care, or home medical care in an aging society. A characteristic of the modern medical industry is that it requires knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and medical digital transformation (DX). Without remaining as a "receiver" of education cultivated through tradition, one must be well-versed in a wide range of social situations and actively improve one's knowledge of general medical science and one's research mindset in order to respond to the new modern medical environment. It is impossible to grow into the medical professional you are capable of.
Kumamoto University School of Medicine, Department of Health Sciences, and Kumamoto University are places where people who love learning in order to love others can grow into human resources with deep compassion for others, enthusiasm for medicine and medical care, and cutting-edge general medical knowledge. We, the faculty and staff, sincerely hope that you will take advantage of the Graduate School of Health Sciences Education Department. Come out! Human resources who will lead the medical and medical world of the future.
